Northwestern Women Finish Tops In NAIA Basketball

Northwestern fields the top spot in the NAIA Division II women’s basketball coaches’ postseason poll released by the NAIA earlier today. The Red Raiders earned all 12 first-place votes and totaled 312 points.

The Red Raiders concluded the 2011-12 season by winning its third straight national championship, the only team ever to win three in a row. They are also the first team to record five national titles overall in the 21-year history of the championship event. Head coach Chris Yaw guided his team to a 28-7 overall record, winning 24 of the final 27 games after a 4-4 start.

Northwestern is one of five GPAC teams that finished in the top 25, joining Concordia (3), Morningside (6), Briar Cliff (8) and Hastings (15).
