NWC Sixth, Defenders Ninth in Preseason GPAC Baseball Poll

Sioux City, Iowa – Concordia totaled 80 points and is the preseason coaches’ selection to win the 2018 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Baseball Championship.  The Bulldogs tallied eight first place votes. Midland, tabbed second with 74 points, had two first place votes.

Concordia posted a 34-22 record last spring while posting a 19-9 conference record to finish claim the GPAC regular season title. Midland, did picked up the GPAC tournament title with a 5-3 win over Concordia. The Warriors, finished the year with a 42-20 overall record. Both the Bulldogs and the Warriors received bids to the opening round of the NAIA tournament.

2018 marks the second year that the GPAC baseball season will feature a 28-game schedule. The GPAC Postseason Tournament will feature two four-team tournaments (Seeds 1,4,5,8 and Seeds 2,3,6,7) (double elimination) on May 3-5 at the sites of the top two seeds. Then the two tournament winners will play on Tuesday, May 8, in the Cypress Risk Management GPAC Championship (one nine inning game) at the highest remaining seed.

Points were awarded on a 9-1 basis and coaches’ could not vote for their own team.
