Ocheyedan Native to Coach Basketball Team on Tour of Italy

basketballOcheyedan native Mike Jacobsma has been named head coach of Team Stars for a women’s basketball tour of Italy from May 24th through June 3rd. American International Sports Teams is organizing the tour.

In his second years as the women’s basketball coach at Central College Jacobsma will lead Team Stars in four or five exhibition games against Italian club teams. The 10-player roster invited on tour is comprised of student-athletes from NCAA Division II and III.

Jacobsma is in the process of rebuilding Central College into a championship program. This past season he guided the Dutch to a 10-15 season. That is the most wins for the women’s program since the 2003-2004 season. Two players received honorable mention for the all-conference squad.

Jacobsma served three years as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Evansville in Indiana. He helped the Purple Aces win the 2009 Missouri Valley Conference tournament title and earn an NCAA tournament berth. From 2003-2008 he coached at the Colorado School of Mines. Jacobsma was also a graduate assistant and interim assistant at Wayne State in Nebraska, where he received his master’s degree in 2003.

Jacobsma and his wife Bara have two children.
