Orab Boys Basketball Team Off to 5-0 Start With Win at Okoboji

The Sheldon Orabs split a Siouxland Conference Basketball Doubleheader at Okoboji Tuesday night with the girl’s game going to the Pioneers 64-53 and the boys game to Sheldon 71-50.

In the girls game Okoboji led at all the breaks 16-11 at the end of the first quarter, 32-25 at the half and 44-39 at the end of the third before going on to win it 64-53.

Sheldon had two players in double figure led by Krista Bousema with 13 including an 8-point third quarter. Abbie Provost hit for a dozen.

Okoboji was led by Abby Taylor who hit for a game high 17 points. Balanced scoring by the Pioneers also included Olivia Albright and Darby Jones with 11 points each and Emily Wintz with 10.

With the win Okoboji moves to 3-1 in the conference and 4-1 on the season. Sheldon stands at 2-2 in the conference and 2-3 for the year.

In the boys game Sheldon jumped out to a 20-10 first quarter lead behind a 10 point effort from James Gradert who would finish the night with a game high 16 points. At the half Sheldon was up 37-18 and pushed that to a 58-35 third quarter advantage before going on to the 71-50 final. Nate Oostra and Matt Dykstra joined Gradert in double figures with 14 points apeace.

Okoboji was led by Holt Hunziker with 9 points followed by Dalton Syverson with 7. With the win Sheldon is off to a 5-0 start including a 3-0 conference mark. Okoboji falls to 1-2 in the Siouxland and 1-3 for the season.

Up next for Sheldon will be a conference doubleheader Friday night at Orab Gym as the Rock Valley Rockets come to town.
