Orab Boys Golfers Advance to State

Date posted - May 20, 2016

Siouxland Conference Champion Orab Boys Golf Team 2016Okoboji Iowa — The Sheldon Orab boys golf Team won the 2A District Golf Tournament at Emerald Hills on Friday to advance to the Class 2A State Tournament. The Orabs earned their District title by the narrowest of margins with a series of tie breakers coming into play.

Sheldon shot a 337 and Fort Dodge St. Edmonds’s also shot a 337. The first tie breaker goes to the 5th place golfer on each team, and that was a tie as well, so it went to the 6th golfer on the team and that’s where Sheldon got the edge to win the District and qualify for a berth in the 2016 State 2A Boys Golf Tournament.

Orab head coach Gene Bomgaars said, “we have stressed how important every player is, every hole is and every shot this post season and boy did that come to be true today. The fun part of today is that we used every single player’s score as it went down to the 6th player”. Up next for the Orab golf squad will be the 2A State Tournament at Fort Dodge May 27th and 28th.
