Orab Boys win Siouxland Conference Basketball Title

Sheldon Orabs 1West Lyon Inwood Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs claimed the Siouxland Conference boys basketball title outright Friday night winning a 53-51 thriller at the West Lyon. The Wildcats were unable to connect on a free throw opportunity with less than a second to play that would have sent the game into overtime.

Sheldon led at the end of the first quarter 15-13 only to see the Wildcats pull in front 24-23 at halftime. Sheldon scored the first four points of the second half and hit the third quarter break with a 46-42 lead. Sheldon was able to hold off West Lyon in the fourth quarter and earn a hard fought season sweep over the Wildcats with a 53-51 win.

Sheldon was led by Kyle Boerhave with 15 points. Jaden Kleinhesslink hit for a dozen with Ryan Van Marel adding 10 points on the night. West Lyon was led by Micah Meyer who tied for game high honors with 15 of his own. He was joined in double figures by Isaac Heyer with 11 points.

With the win Sheldon finishes at 17-4 on the year and 15-3 in the conference. West Lyon  ends the regular season at 17-4 on the year and 14-4 in the conference.

Both teams open Class 2A tournament play on Monday hosting play in games. The Orabs Open District 1 play hosting Cherokee in an 8:00 o’clock game. The 6:30 game will match Emmetsburg and Unity Christian. We’ll broadcast both games on KIWA FM 105.3. In District 2 West Lyon will host Sibley Ocheyedan in an 8:00 o’clock game. The 6:30 game will match Okoboji and Estherville Lincoln Central at the West Lyon Gym.
