The Sheldon Orab girl’s basketball team opened the season with a 46-30 road win at Boyden Hull Tuesday night.
The Orange led 9-5 at the end of the first quarter and pushed that to a 29-13 halftime advantage behind a 13 point second quarter from Krista Bousema. At the end of the third quarter the lead was 39-21 as Sheldon went on to win it 46-30.
Bousema had a game high 23 points on the night to lead all scorers. Abbie Provost was next with 7 points.
Sheldon hit 5 three-pointers on the night with four different players hitting from behind the arc. They included Bousema with a pair and Allie Jongewaard, Emily Johnson and Abbie Provost with one each.
The Comets were led by Nicole Ewoldt with a 12 point effort including an 8-of-10 performance from the free throw line. Sophomore Courtney Schafer was next with 8 points.
It was the season and conference opener for both squads. Up next for the Orabs will be a trip to the Sibley Ocheyedan High School Gym next Tuesday for the first girls-boys double header of the season.
