The Newell-Fonda Mustangs defeated Sheldon’s Orabs 11-3 last night in non-conference softball action at Orab Field.
Newell-Fonda jumped out to an early lead and then rode their strong pitching and defense to the victory.
Katie Jongewaard led Sheldon’s offense going 2 for 3 with a double, triple, run batted in and a run scored. Krista Bousema and Abbi Meendering drove in the other two Orab runs, while Mackensey Radke, Ashley VanAalsburg, Jessica VanBeek, and Nicole VanBeek all had singles for Sheldon.
Allison Jongewaard and Sami Kleinwolterink shared the pitching duties. Losing pitcher, Jongewaard started the contest and pitched the first five innings. She gave up ten runs (five earned) on eight hits. She struck out six and walked four. Kleinwolterink pitched the final two innings and she allowed one run on one hit, while walking two and striking out four.
Sheldon is back in action again Thursday when they host BH/RV in a JV/V contest at Orab Field.
