Rain forced the cancellation of day two of the Sheldon Softball Tournament games Saturday in Sheldon but the Orabs were able to split a pair of games on Friday. Sheldon posted a 12-0 three inning win over West Sioux while dropping a 13-9 decision to Spirit Lake. The Indians are rated 14th in the latest Class 3A poll.
In the win over West Sioux Sheldon scored 11 runs in the bottom of the third inning to end the ballgame. Mackensey Radke and Kelsey Den Hartog led the way with Radke driving in three runs going 2-for-3 at the plate. Den Hartog was 1-for-1 with two runs scored. Macy Jacobsma got the win on the mound. In three shut out innings she gave up 3 hits, struck out 1 and did not walk a batter.
Against Spirit Lake Sheldon scored 8 runs in the bottom of the second inning to take an 8-1 lead after two innings only to see Spirit Lake keep chipping away through out the contest.
Spirit Lake put 5 runs on the board in the top of the sixth to take a 9-8 lead before Sheldon scored in the bottom half of the inning to tie it up going into the top of the seventh. The Indians scored 4 runs in the top of seven and then held the Orabs scoreless to take the 13-9 win.
At the plate Krista Bousema led the way with 3rbi’s going 3-for-5 with a home run and a run scored. Mackensey Radke drove in a pair going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Sami Kleinwolterink took the loss. She gave up 12 runs on 10 hits with just 5 runs earned. She struck out 4 and walked 4 in the contest.
Next action for Sheldon will be a Siouxland Conference game at MOC Floyd Valley on Monday. The Orab baseball team will be at MOC Floyd Valley as well.
The Orab baseball tournament scheduled for Saturday with Spirit Lake and Sergeant Bluff Luton scheduled to be in town was cancelled also.
