Orabs And Comets on to Boys State Basketball Tournament

Date posted - February 23, 2013

orabs_stateSheldon is Boys State Tournament bound following a 64-57 overtime win over Western Christian in a 2A Substate game Saturday night at the MOC Floyd Valley Gym.

A reflective Head Coach Claude Struve said the win felt pretty good …..

Sheldon opened a 15-10 first quarter lead and was up 23-20 at halftime. The game remained close with Sheldon up 37-31 at the end of the third quarter. With the fourth quarter winding down the Wolfpack’s Kyle Fopma erased a late Orab lead with a three-pointer to send the game into overtime tied at 54-54.

As you might expect with an overtime game coach Struve felt it could have gone either way…..

Unofficially the Orabs went 8-of -9 from the free throw line as a team with Dallas Ennema hitting 6-of-7 with Chris Balster knocking down the other two. Balster added a bucket in overtime to finish with 8 points on the night.

Nate Oostra was the game’s top scorer with 21 followed by Ennema with 20. Michael Den Herder led the Wolfpack with 14 points and was joined in double figures by Fopma with 12.

Sheldon started five seniors Saturday night and Struve talked about the play of his seniors…

With a mix of seniors and underclassmen it truly was a team win for the Orabs ….

With the win Sheldon improves to 22-3 on the year while Western ends the season at 21-3. Sheldon the three seed in the tourney will open 2A Quarterfinal play on Tuesday March 5th at 12:15 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines against 6 seed Pella Christian. The Eagles enter the tournament at 20-4.
