Orabs and Rockets Split Conference Doubleheader

Siouxland Conference logoRock Valley —The Sheldon Orabs split a conference basketball doubleheader at Rock Valley Friday night. The Rockets took the girls game 55-43 with Sheldon taking the boys contest 71-52.

In the girls game Rock Valley opened with a 14-9 first quarter lead and were up 25-18 at half time. At the end of the third quarter it was 36-29 with Rock Valley going on to win 55-43. Sheldon’s Emily Johnson and Rock Valley’s Alexis Mousel shared game high honors with 23 points each. Samatha Blum was in double figures for the Rockets with 21 points.

With the win Rock Valley improves to 6-9 on the year and 5-8 in the conference with Sheldon at 5-10 for the year and 4-9 in the Siouxland.

In the boys game Sheldon got off to a strong start and never looked back. They led 23-11 at the end of the first quarter and were up 39-18 at halftime. At the end of the third quarter the lead was 61-30 with the Orabs going on to win 71-52.

The Orabs were on fire all night long from behind the arc. Five players combined to knock down 15 threes in the contest.

Sheldon had three players in double figures with Ian Jongewaard pumping in 22 points including six 3-pointers. Turner DeJong had 12 points with all four behind the arc. Dylan Ennema added 12 more with a pair of 3-point buckets.

Rock Valley had two players in double figures getting 14 points from Kobe Lutjens and 10 from Myles Van Maanen.

With the win Sheldon moves to 11-3 on the season and 9-3 in the conference. Rock Valley is 7-7 on the year and 5-7 in the conference.

Up next for Sheldon is a Tuesday trip to MOC Floyd Valley. For Rock Valley it’s a Tuesday trip to Okoboji.
