Orabs And Warriors Split Conference Doubleheader


basketballSheldon and Sioux Center split a Siouxland Conference basketball doubleheader in Sheldon Friday night. The girls game went to the Orabs 49-33 with the Warriors winning the boys game 66-60.

In the girls game Sioux Center opened a 13-11 first quarter lead. Sami Kleinwolterink hit a three point bucket as the first half ended to pull Sheldon even at 19-19 going into halftime. At the end of the third quarter Sheldon had built a 30-23 lead and went on to win it 49-33. in the fourth quarter five Sheldon players combined to go 12-of-15 from the free throw line to seal away the win. for the game the Orabs were 15-of-21 at the line.

Krista Bousema hit for a game high 24 points including five 2 point buckets, a pair of three pointers and went 8-of-10 at the free throw line. Sioux Center was led by Madison Beaver with 10 points including a pair of three point buckets.

With the win Sheldon improves to 5-4 on the year and 4-3 in the conference. Sioux Center stands at 5-3 for the season and 5-2 in the Siouxland.


In the boys game that followed the Warriors led at all the breaks up 23-15 at the end of the first quarter and 38-27 at halftime. At the end of the third quarter the lead was 52-41. a fourth quarter charge got the Orabs to within five points but the Warriors were able to hold on for a 66-60 win and remain unbeaten in the conference.

Chris Borchers erupted for 27 points to lead all scorers. He hit six two point field goals to go along with a trio of threes and hit 6-of-7 from the free throw line. He was joined in double figures by Alex Baker and Steven Kragt who added 14 points each.

Sheldon had two players in double figures led by Collin Wolthuizen with 15 including six field goals and a perfect 3-of-3 performance at the free throw line. Turner De Jong hit for 10 including 8 point in the fourth quarter as the Orabs fought back to within five points late in the ballgame.

With the win Sioux Center improves to 5-1 on the season and the Warriors remain unbeaten in the conference at 5-0. Sheldon hits the holiday break at 3-5 on the season and 2-4 in the Siouxland.

With some time off for the holidays Sheldon resumes play with a home doubleheader against West Lyon on Friday January 3rd.
