The Sheldon Orabs split a Siouxland Conference Basketball Doubleheader at Sioux Center Friday night. the girls game went to Sioux Center 52-44 and the boys game went to Sheldon 51-45 in double overtime.
In the girls game Sheldon led at the first three breaks. They took a 9-7 first quarter lead and were up 21-17 at halftime. At the end of three the Orab lead was 35-34. in the fourth quarter the Warriors took the lead and went on to win it 52-44.
Abbie Provost tied for game high honors with Jill VanderPlaats with both hitting for 13 points. Sheldon’s Emily Johnson and Sioux Center’s Jillian Estes were in double figures as well with each pumping in 11 points.
With the win Sioux Center improves to 5-2 in the conference and 5-3 for the season. Sheldon stands at 2-5 in the conference and 2-6 on the year.
In the boys game that followed Sheldon led 10-8 at the end of the first quarter and 16-15 at the half. At the end of the third Sheldon was up 27-26. Sioux Center was a point better in the fourth quarter and at the end of regulation it was tied at 36-36.
In the first overtime James Gradert went 2-of-2 at the free throw line and Steven Kragt countered with a field goal to send it into a second overtime tied at 38-38. in the second overtime Orab senior Dallas Ennema hit for 10 of his game high 23 points. Dallas hit a field goal and went 8-of-10 at the line in the second overtime period. James Gradert added field goal and converted on the and-one opportunity as he scored five of his fifteen points in the overtime sessions.
In the second overtime Sioux Center a 4-of-6 performance from the line by Kragt who scored 6 of his 11 points in overtime. Andrew O’Donnel who had 11 points on the night as well hit a three point field goal in the second overtime.
With the win Sheldon improves to 6-0 in the conference and 8-0 on the season. Sioux Center suffered their first conference loss and is 5-1 in the Siouxland and 5-2 for the season.
