Sheldon split a basketball doubleheader at West Lyon Friday night. The Orabs won the girls game 75-57 with the boys game going to the Wildcats 97-62.
In the girls game Sheldon led at all the breaks. They were up 14-10 at the end of the first quarter and 41-29 at the half. At the end of three the lead was 53-34 as the Orabs went on to the win.
Krista Bousema hit for a game high 21 points with Emily Johnson adding 18 and Sami Kleinwolterink hitting for a dozen. West Lyon was led by Alyssa Kock and Maddie Meyer with 13 apeace and Addie Meyer with 12 points.
With the win Sheldon improves to 11-9 for the year and 9-8 in the conference. West Lyon stands at 5-15 for the year and 3-14 in the conference.
In the boys game West Lyon led from start to finish up 34-13 at the end of the first quarter and 61-34 at the half as they went on to win it 97-62.
Four of the five Wildcat starters found double figures with Kyle Groeneweg hitting six 3-point field goals as part of a 22 point night. Cody Bauman hit for 18. Brandon Snyder pumped in 17 with Kaleb Heyer adding 12 more.
Sheldon was led by Ian Jongewaard with 14 points including a trio of threes. Andy Cooper had 11 points off the bench.
With the win West Lyon the number 7 team in the latest Radio Iowa 1A poll improves to 15-3 on the year and 14-2 in the conference. Sheldon moves to 5-14 for the year and 4-12 in the conference.
Up next for the Orabs will be a home doubleheader with Central Lyon on Tuesday night. it’s the final regular season game for the Orab girls.
