Orabs and West Lyon Split Basketball Doubleheader

BasketballLarchwood Iowa — Sheldon and West Lyon split a conference basketball doubleheader Saturday night at Larchwood.  The Wildcats took the girls game 62-35 with Sheldon winning the boys game 75-63.

Sheldon led at the end of the first quarter 11-9. At the half West Lyon had pulled even at 19-19. The Wildcats came alive in the third quarter and took a 37-24 lead at the end of the quarter before going on to win 62-35.

West Lyon had two players in double figures getting a game high 22 from Torri Van Beek and 11 from Tessa Van Beek. Sheldon was led by Sydney Iedema with 10 points on the night. With the win West Lyon moves to 16-4 on the season and 15-4 in the conference. Sheldon is 4-16 on the year and 3-14 in the Siouxland.

 

In the boys game Sheldon led at all the breaks up 16-15 at the end of the first quarter and 30-28 at the intermission. Sheldon broke it open in the third quarter as Sam Wagner hit 12 of his 22 points in the quarter and Kyle Boerhave pumped in 10 of his game high 25 also in the third quarter. They were joined in double figures by Ian Jongewaard who hit for a pair of threes in each half for a 12 point night.West Lyon had three players in double figures as well with Isaac Heyer hitting for 15, Jaden Snyder for 13 and Mitchell Rentschler adding a dozen. With the win Sheldon is 9-10 on the year and 9-7 in the conference. West Lyon is 9-10 for the year and 6-10 in the Siouxland.

Next up for Sheldon will be the final girls/boys doubleheader Tuesday night when they host Boyden Hull. West Lyon will be at MOC Floyd Valley on Tuesday night.
