Orabs And Wildcats Split Basketball Doubleheader

basketballThe Sheldon Orabs split a Siouxland Conference Basketball Doubleheader with West Lyon Friday night. The Wildcats won the girls game 49-34 while the Orabs took the boys game 69-60 at Sheldon.

In the girls game Audrey Gustafson hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game at 9-9 after the first quarter. At halftime West Lyon was up 19-16. With a strong third quarter the Wildcats took control and led 34-20 going into the final 8 minutes as they posted the win 49-34.

West Lyon had three players in double figures with Tarah and Addy Meyer each hitting for 11 points and Alyssa Kock hitting for 10. Sheldon was led by Krista Bousema with 11 points on the night.

With the win West Lyon goes to 3-14 in the conference and 3-17 for the year while Sheldon stands at 5-12 in the conference and 5-15 on the year.
In the boys game that followed Sheldon opened a 17-14 first quarter lead and was up 33-30 at halftime. A Dallas Ennema three-pointer as time expired in the third put the Orabs up 46-41 heading into the final quarter as Sheldon went on to win 69-60.

Ennema led all scorers with 25 points including 16 in the fourth quarter. James Gradert hit for 14, Chris Balster 12 and Nate Oostra 11 as Sheldon put four of the five starters in double figures.

West Lyon had three players in double figures. Cody Bauman led the team with 21 including 12 in the fourth quarter. He was joined by Kaleb Heyer and Brandon Snyder with both pumping in 10 points.

With the win Sheldon improves to 14-2 in the conference and 18-2 on the season. West Lyon slips to 10-6 in the conference and 12-7 for the year.

Up next for Sheldon will be the final doubleheader of the season as they travel to Central Lyon Tuesday night. West Lyon will be at Rock Valley.
