Orabs Down Pioneers in Okoboji

Milford Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs scored on the first possession of the ballgame and the first possession of the second half as they posted a 33-14 win over the Pioneers in Okoboji Friday night. A Luke Bossard interception return 30 yards for a touchdown pulled Okoboji to with 20-14 with 2:28 left in the third quarter. Sheldon would answer with a pair of touchdowns to put the game away.

The Orabs scored on their first possession as Brennan Radke found Tyler Lode for a 48 yard score. Brian Bernal added the extra point and Sheldon had the lead 7-0 with 8:12 left in the first quarter.

The Pioneers tied the game with 11:13 left in the second quarter when Jacob Allen hit Chris Halbur for a 10 yard touchdown pass. Austin Harms added the extra point to tie the score at 7-7.

Lightning struck at the end of the first half as the Orabs found the end zone from the Okoboji 48 yard line with no time left. With :09 seconds remaining Radke hit Lode at the 25 yard line and Lode cut to the middle of the field and then cut inside a block by Trent Van Meeteren to get the final 5 yards and the score. The extra point was no good but the Orabs had taken a 13-7 halftime lead.

Sheldon got the ball to start the second half and went on a 70 yard drive. Brendan Cain ran for the score on a 15 yard play. Bernal’s kick was good and the lead was 20-7 with 7:39 left in the third quarter.

After the 30 yard interception for 6 by Bossard and the extra point by harms cut the lead to 20-14 Brian Bernal capped a 66 yard drive with a 32 yard run. A 2 point conversion attempt was no good and Sheldon led 26-14 with 1:34 left in the third quarter.

The Orabs cashed in on a short field for their final score as Lode ran in from 3 yards out. Bernal added the extra point and Sheldon had a 33-14 lead with 11:09 left in the ballgame and that would be the final score.

With the win Sheldon is 5-3 on the year and 2-2 in the district. Okoboji is now 2-6 on the season and 0-4 in the district. The regular season comes to a close next Friday with Sheldon hosting Central Lyon George Little Rock. Okoboji will be at MOC Floyd Valley.
