Orabs Fall to Nighthawks in Rock Valley 9/28/12

Top ranked Boyden Hull Rock Valley Nighthawks remained unbeaten on the year with a 49-0 homecoming win over Sheldon Friday night in Rock Valley.

The Nighthawks scored on their first two possessions as quarterback Brandt Van Roekel scored on touchdown runs of 10 and 38 yards. After the second score a two point conversion pass from Chris Sietstra to J.C. Koerselman made the score 14-0 with 5:52 left in the first quarter.

Following a fumble recovery at the Sheldon 5 yard line Miguel Alvarado scored the first of three touchdowns on the night with a 5 yard run.

The next score came from the special teams as Dillon Schamber blocked a punt and returned it 26 yards for the score. David De Bruin added the extra point and the score went to 27-0 with 10:55 left in the half.

Alvarado followed with a pair of touchdowns scoring his second of the night from 9 yards out. Following a fumble recovery at the Orab 13 yard line Miguel went in from 5 yards out. De Bruin added the point and the lead was 42-0 with 5:34 to go in the half.

Boyden Hull Rock Valley closed out the scoring with 1:37 to go in the first half as Logan Stiens scored on a 23 yard run. The kick was good and the Nighthawks were up 49-0.

With running clock and reserves seeing action there was no scoring in the second half.

With the win Boyden Hull Rock Valley top ranked in both the Class 2A Radio Iowa and AP poll stands at 3-0 in the district and 6-0 on the season. For Sheldon it was their first district loss. The Orabs slip to 3-1 in the district and 4-2 on the year.

Both teams are on the road next Friday with Sheldon traveling to Sioux Center who posted a 41-9 win at Cherokee.

The Nighthawks will be in Orange City to go against an MOC Floyd Valley squad that downed Unity Christian Friday night 23-8.
