Orabs Fall To Spencer In Non District Football

The Sheldon Orab Football Team fell to 1-1 in non district play Friday night dropping the home opener to the Spencer Tigers 42-14. With the win Spencer pulls even at 1-1 for the year as well.

The Tigers got on the board first as Hunter Cushman took a pitch around the right side and raced 90 yards for the game’s first score. Mark Malm added the extra point and Spencer was up 7-0 with 11:13 to go in the first quarter.

Sheldon forced a fumble and recovered at the Spencer 49 yard line. The Orabs cashed in quickly as Chris Balster found Nate Oostra up the right sideline for the touchdown. Balster added the extra point and the game was tied at 7-7 with 4:47 to go in the first quarter.

Spencer followed with a 70 yard drive as quarterback Matt Finnern scored on a 41 yard run. The extra point was good and the Tigers were back in front 14-7 with 3:18 to go in the first quarter.

Finnern capped a short 34 yard drive set up by the defense as he scored from 33 yards out. The extra point was good and the Tigers lead went to 21-7 with 1:12 to go in the first quarter.

Sheldon responded with a 62 yard drive. Balster capped it with a 3 yard touchdown run. Chris added the point after and the lead was cut to 21-14.

Spencer got on the board again just before halftime as Finnern found wide out Phillip Huisenga for an 11 yard score. Malm’s extra point was good and the tigers led 28-14 with: 07 seconds left in the half and that would be the score at intermission.

After a scoreless third quarter Spencer added a pair of Finnern touchdown runs. The Tiger quarterback scored a pair of 3 yard touchdowns. Mark Malm remained perfect on extra points and Spencer left Sheldon with a 42-14 win.

District Play begins next week for both teams. The Orabs travel to Orange City to go against Unity Christian while the Tigers will host Strom Lake.
