Orabs Move to 2-0 in District Play with 43-8 Win at Cherokee

Orab-LogoThe Sheldon Orabs ran their district record to 2-0 with a 43-8 win at Cherokee Friday night. Sheldon scored on their first four possessions as they took a 27-0 halftime lead.

On their opening possession the Orabs went 48 yard for the score as Hunter McDonald finished the drive with a 1 yard run. The extra point was blocked and Sheldon led 6-0 with 7:11 left in the first quarter.

Colby Kleinhesselink picked off a pass at the Cherokee 32 yard line. That was turned into points when tanner Whitsell scored on a 3 yard run. Matt Buenger found Garrett Lang for the 2 point conversion and Sheldon was up 14-0 with 4:08 left in the first quarter.

The Orabs followed with a 77 yard drive capped by a Logan Otis 10 yard run. Trevor Mayer’s kick was good and the lead was 21-0 with 9:56 to play in the second quarter.

Sheldon went 62 yards with their next possession as Otis scored his second touchdown of the night on a 1 yard run. The kick was no good and Sheldon held a 27-0 halftime lead.

The Orabs got the ball to start the second half and Hunter McDonald returned the kick 82 yards for the score that put Sheldon up 33-0 with just: 17 seconds gone in the third quarter.

Sheldon would go 70 yards for a score midway through the third quarter as Whitsell capped the drive with his second touchdown of the night from 2 yards out. The extra point by Mayer made it 40-0.

A fumble recovery on the ensuing kick off set up the Orabs at the Cherokee 9 yard line. The short field would eventually be cashed in on a 35 yard Trevor Mayer field goal that made the score 43-0 with: 15 seconds to go in the third quarter.

Cherokee ended the scoring as Luke Zeimen scored on a 13 yard run. Mason Meitzenheimer scored on the 2 point conversion to make score 43-8 with 7:17 left to play and that would be the final score.

With the win Sheldon improves to 2-0 in the district and 3-1 on the season. Cherokee falls to 0-2 in the district and 0-4 on the year. Next up for the Orabs will be a trip to Rock Rapids to go against Central Lyon George Little Rock.
