Orabs Remain Unbeaten In District Football

The Sheldon Orab Football Team remains unbeaten in district play following a 34-14 home win over Central Lyon George Little Rock Friday night.
Sheldon got on the board first as they cashed in on a fumble caused by Tanner Whitsell at the Lions 17 yard line. Quarterback Chris Balster went in from 4 yards out for the score.
Trevor Mayer added the extra point and with 2:58 left in the first quarter the Orabs led 7-0.
The Lions would answer with a 71 yard drive that ended when Jesse Marcus scored on a 15 yard run. Luke Grooters added the extra point and the game was tied 7-7 with 11:22 left in the half.
Sheldon would answer that score with a 74 yard drive that ended when Balster found Nate Oostra for a 19 yard score. Mayer’s kick was good and the Orabs were back in front 14-7 with 9:32 to play in the first half.
Sheldon added to the lead with a 63 yard drive capped by a Hunter McDonald 1 yard touchdown run. Mayer’s kick was good and the lead was up to 21-7 with 3:15 to go in the half and that would be the score at intermission.
Central Lyon George Little Rock got the football to start the second half and got right back into the ballgame with a 76 yard scoring drive. The big play was a 48 yard scamper by tailback Josh Hunt. Grooters added the extra point and the Lions were within 7 points at 21-14 with 7:40 to play in the third quarter.
Sheldon put together a long time consuming drive that took over half of the fourth quarter as they started on their own 7 yard line. The drive came to a close with 5:36 left in the game as Balster hit Oostra for a 7 yard touchdown that put the Orabs in front 27-14 as the extra point was blocked.
Sheldon sealed the win as Clayton Scheibler recovered a fumble on the Lions 39 yard line. Hunter McDonald scored from 13 yards out and Mayer hit the extra point to put the Orabs up 34-14 with 2:21 to play and that would be the final score.
With the win Sheldon moves to 3-0 in the district and 4-1 on the season. Central Lyon George Little Rock falls to 2-1 in the district and 3-2 on the season.
Up next for Sheldon will be a trip to Rock Valley as they meet unbeaten Boyden Hull Rock Valley next Friday night.
