Orabs Split Basketball Doubleheader at MOC Floyd Valley

The Sheldon Orab Basketball Teams split a Siouxland Conference Basketball double header at MOC Floyd Valley Friday night. The girl’s game went to the Lady Dutch 52-26 while the Orabs took the boy’s matchup 64-53.
In the girls game MOC Floyd Valley went up 19-5 in the first quarter and was up 31-8 at halftime as they stayed unbeaten in the conference at 15-0.
Alexis Conaway scored a game high 22 points. Rylee Yaw had 9 points on a trio of three-pointers. Sheldon was led by Janessa Holles with 5 points. Audrey Gustafson, Krista Bousema and Abby Provost added 4 points each.
With the win the Lady Dutch are 15-0 in the conference and 17-1 on the season. Sheldon moves to 5-10 in the Siouxland and 5-12 for the year.
In the boys game Sheldon took a 13-9 first quarter lead. With time running out in the second quarter a put back bucket by Justin Van Kalsbeek pulled the Dutch even at 25-25 going into halftime. At the end of the third quarter the Dutch were up 45-42. In the fourth quarter the Orabs were able to ride out the storm and regain the lead. With the Dutch forced to put Sheldon at the line the Orabs would go 9-of-13 in the quarter and pick up the win 64-53.
Sheldon got a game high 27 points from Dallas Ennema including 9 in the final quarter. Nate Oostra and Chris Balster hit for a dozen apeace with James Gradert adding 9 points.
MOC Floyd Valley was led by Van Kalsbeek with an 18 point night. Also in double figures was Trey Achterhoff with 10 points.
With the win Sheldon improves to 13-1 in the conference and 16-1 for the season. MOC Floyd Valley slips to 13-2 in the Siouxland and 14-3 on the year.
Up next for Sheldon will be a home doubleheader Saturday night with Sergeant Bluff Luton coming to Orab Gym.
