Orabs Split Doubleheader With Central Lyon Sheldon Boys Remain Unbeaten

The Sheldon Orab Basketball Teams split a Siouxland Conference doubleheader against visiting Central Lyon Friday night. The girl’s game went to 5th ranked Central Lyon 70-52, while 6th ranked Sheldon won the boy’s game 65-52.
In the girls game the Lions led at all the breaks up 12-7 at the end of the first quarter and 29-18 at halftime. At the end of three the lead was 51-31 as the Lions had their 9th win of the season against just one loss.
Three starters found double figures led by Lexi Ackerman with 18 and twin Kelsey Ackerman with 15. They were joined by Kori Schulte with 12 points.
Sheldon got a game high 21 points from Krista Bousema including 9 points in the second quarter. Audrey Gustafson added 8 points for the Orabs and Janessa Holles had 7.
With the win Central Lyon goes into the holiday break at 8-1 in the conference and 9-1 on the year. Sheldon stands at 3-6 in the Siouxland and 3-7 for the year.
In the boys game Sheldon opened a 17-14 first quarter lead and led 30-27 at halftime. The Orabs got off to a 13-4 scoring run in the third quarter and rode that momentum to a 54-37 third quarter lead as they went on to win it 65-52. A pair of seniors keyed the third quarter outburst as Dallas Ennema and Nate Oostra each had 10 points in the quarter. Ennema would go on to a game high 26 points while Oostra would finish with 17.
Central Lyon sophomore Nic Lutmer led the Lions with 23 points. Carter Roskam was next with 9 points.
With the win Sheldon hits the holiday break at 8-0 in the Siouxland Conference and 10-0 on the season. Central Lyon hits the break at 3-5 in the conference and 4-5 on the year.
Next action for Sheldon will be a home doubleheader with Boyden Hull coming to Orab gym on Friday January 4th as the second half of the season gets underway.
