Orabs Split Doubleheader With Comets at Hull

Hull Iowa — Sheldon and Boyden Hull split a Siouxland Conference doubleheader in Hull Friday night. The girls game went to Boyden Hull 57-43 while the Orabs took the boys game 59-37.

In the girls game the Comets held a 13-11 first quarter before outscoring Sheldon 18-8 in the second quarter to move in front 33-19 at half time. The Comets rode that momentum the rest of the way. At the end of the third quarter the lead was 47-33 with the Comets going on to win 57-43.

Sheldon had two players in double figures led by Kacy Kamphoff with 13 and Katie Wagner with 11 points. Boyden Hull had three players in double figures getting a game high 17 from Brooke Zylstra, 15 from Brianna Kleinwolterink and 11 from Mallory Nilles.

With the win the Comets are 4-8 on the year and 4-7 in the conference. Sheldon is 3-11 for the season and 3-9 in the Siouxland.

 

In the boys game Sheldon jumped out to a 14-4 first quarter lead and never looked back. The Orabs increased that to a 35-12 advantage at halftime and were up 47-24 at the end of the third quarter. They went on to get the win 59-37.

Tyler Merley dropped in six 3’s for a game high 18 points. Ryan Van Marel scored 16 from inside and Kyle Boerhave hit a pair of 3’s as part of a 12 point night. As a team Sheldon had nine 3-point buckets in the contest. Boyden Hull was led by Brett Van Der Wilt and Beau De Jongh with 8 points each.

With the win Sheldon is 12-1 on the year and 10-1 in the conference. Boyden Hull is 2-8 on the season and 3-8 in the conference. Next up for the Orabs will be a conference double header at home Tuesday night against Sioux Center. The Warriors handed the Sheldon boys their only loss on the season. Boyden Hull will be at Okoboji.
