Orabs Tyler Johnson Pitches Perfect Game as Sheldon Downs Central Lyon

Rock Rapids Iowa — Tyler Johnson threw a perfect game as the Sheldon Orabs baseball team earned a 7-0 win at Central Lyon on Monday night. He struck out 11 throwing just 72 pitches over 7 innings. The 72 pitch total means only 9 pitches were either fouled off or out of the strike zone.

We talked with Tyler Tuesday afternoon and asked if he felt he had no hitter-perfect game stuff warming up.

We asked when he thought he might be in the middle of something special.

Johnson was able to spot 3 pitches and considered his curve to be his best pitch Monday night.

A you might expect the closer he got to the 7th inning the tougher it got to put a potential perfect game out of his mind.

Tyler was also quick to credit the defense behind him.

Orab head coach Brad Zeutenhorst talked about his thoughts as the game unfolded.

Johnson was supported by solid offense as Sheldon scored in the top of the third then added 4 more in the top of the 6th and finished with a 2 run 7th inning. Johnson helped his own cause with a pair of rbi’s. Hunter Lang drove in two as well. Lang led the offense going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Tyler Merley was 1-for-2 with 2 runs scored.

Brady Wright went the first 4 and 2/3rd innings for the Lions. He gave up just 2 hits and 1 run in taking the loss. Sheldon returns to action Thursday night with a home game against Boyden Hull Rock Valley. Central Lyon is back in action Tuesday night hosting Okoboji.
