Orabs Win 15-14 in Overtime Against Forest City

Date posted - October 24, 2012

The Sheldon Orabs opened the football playoffs with 15-14 overtime win Wednesday night as they opened at home against Forest City.

Wide receiver Tom Brown outfought the Indians defensive back for the ball as Sheldon went for the two point conversion and the win. Sheldon won the toss and gave the ball to Forest City to start the overtime.

The Indians scored on their possession as quarterback Tate Thompson hit Jonathon Mathiasen on the slant for a 9 yard score. Colton Westerberg added the extra point and it was 14-7 Forest City.

Chris Balster scored on Sheldon’s first play of overtime to set up the game winning two point conversion pass to Brown.

Here’s the call from last night’s broadcast:

The first points of the ballgame belonged to Forest City as Thompson hit Zach Bengtson on a 37 yard scoring pass. Westerberg added the extra point and the Indians led 7-0 with 8:46 to play in the first quarter. That would be the only scoring until late in the third quarter.

Sheldon got the ball to open the second half and went on an 85 yard drive that took over 8 minutes off the clock. The drive ended with Balster scoring on a bootleg from 5 yards out. Trevor Mayer added the extra point and Sheldon had tied the score at 7-7 with 4:40 left in the third quarter and that would be the score at the end of regulation.

With the win Sheldon improves to 8-1 on the year while Forest City ends the season at 7-3. Up next for Sheldon will be a Monday night trip to Spirit Lake to go against a 9-1 Spirit Lake team that opened with a 24-0 win over MOC Floyd Valley.
