Orabs Win District Football Opener At Unity

The Sheldon Orab Football Team opened the district schedule with a 35-0 win over Unity Christian in Orange City Friday night.
Sheldon opened the scoring on their first possession going 49 yards as Chris Balster capped the drive with a 16 yard touchdown run. The extra point was no good and Sheldon led 6-0 with 8:23 left in the first quarter.
Later in the quarter the Orabs went 81 yards on one play as Balster hit Nate Oostra for an 81 yard touchdown pass. Balster found Hunter McDonald for the 2 point conversion and the Sheldon lead was 14-0 with 2:12 left in the first quarter.
A trio of fumbles would lead to a trio of Sheldon touchdowns to wrap up the scoring. The first came when the Orabs recovered a fumble at their own 49 yard line. Balster capped the drive with a 9 yard touchdown run. Chris added the extra point and Sheldon moved in front 21-0 with 9:27 to go in the half.
After recovering a fumble at the Unity 49 Hunter McDonald capped the drive with a 1 yard touchdown run. Balster added the point after and it was 28-0 with 5:30 to go in the half.
The final score came after the Orabs recovered a fumble at their own 27 yard line. The 73 yard drive was capped with: 31 seconds left to play in the first half as Balster scored his third touchdown of the night from 9 yards out. The extra point was good and the Orabs held a 35-0 lead.
With reserves getting their opportunities for both teams in the second half and a continuous running clock the second half was scoreless.
With the win Sheldon opens district play at 1-0 and improves to 2-1 on the season. Unity opens at 0-1 and the Knights are 0-3 on the season.
The Orabs celebrate homecoming next Friday as they host the Cherokee Braves. Unity will be hosting Boyden Hull Rock Valley.
