Record Setting Day For Dordt Football In Win Over Jamestown

A record setting performance by Dordt running back Levi Schoonhoven helped pave the way for a 41-18 GPAC football win for the Dordt Defenders at Jamestown on Saturday afternoon, September 21.

Dordt allowed the first points of the game on a 27 yard field goal with Jamestown’s first possession but the Defenders were in control the rest of the game.

Trailing 3-0 the Defenders went 70 yards on their first drive, doing most of the damage on the ground and got into the end zone with a Levi Niesen carry from the four yard line on a end around sweep with 7:48 left in the quarter.

Jamestown failed to earn a first down and was forced to punt. Nathan Kabongo returned the punt from the Dordt 23 to the Jamestown 39 and the Defenders got a four yard keeper by Tyler Reynolds to end the drive and go up 14-3 after the Brett Zachman point after.

The Defenders threatened on their third drive but penalties thwarted a touchdown and a 27 yard field goal try was off the mark. Jamestown gambled on the next drive when it stalled near midfield and ran a fake punt that was stopped short by a yard on fourth and 12.

With just 3:52 left in the half the Defneders worked the ball down the field with Kaleb Maresh ending the drive with a six yard pass completion go Lucas Warner to make the score 21-3 at the half.

Dordt added to the lead with a 13 play, 68 yard drive to start the second half. Levi Schoonhoven plowed in from the three yard line to make it 28-3.

Jamestown cut the lead to 28-10 with a score on its next drive and that score stood until Reynolds snuck into the end zone again early in the fourth quarter to end an 84 yard drive. Jamestown scored the next 13 points, getting a sustained drive and a touchdown off a fumble recovery and return to make it 35-16

Facing third and one on the next drive it was Schoonhoven who rambled 65 yards, shaking free from three would be tacklers near the line of scrimmage on the final of 35 carries. Schoonhoven was caught at the one yard line and Reece Schnell finished the drive with a one yard plunge to make the final 41-13.

Dordt will host Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday, September 28 in its next action.
