Rock Valley Sweeps Basketball Doubleheader in Sheldon

basketballSheldon Iowa — Rock Valley swept the night and the season basketball series with Sheldon at Orab Gym Friday night. The Rockets took the girls game 61-44 and the boys game on a similar 61-43 final.

In the girls game Rock Valley opened up with a 21-2 first quarter lead and rode that momentum the rest of the way. At the half it was 38-14. Four of the five Rocket starters ended the night in double figures led by Taylor Richter with a game high 19 points. Samantha Blum was next at 17 followed by Cassie Van Beek with 15 and Alexis Mousel with a 10 point night. Sheldon had two players in double figures led by Emily Meyer with 14 points and Cassidy Bart with 12.

With the win Rock Valley is 11-4 on the season and 9-4 in the conference. Sheldon is 3-12 for the year and 2-11 in the Siouxland.

The boys game was tied at 9-9 at the end of the first quarter with the Rockets breaking in front 26-22 at the half. Rock Valley took control in the third quarter and led 49-34 heading into the fourth quarter as they went on to the win 61-43.

Elliot Van Kekerix led four players in double figures with 16 points. He was joined by Brayton Van Kekerix with 14 and Brett Moser with 11. Jason Taylor had a 10 point night off the bench. Sheldon was led by Kyle Boerhave with 13 points followed by Jaden Kleinhesslink with 10.

Rock Valley is now 11-3 on the year and 10-2 in the conference with Sheldon right on their heels at 11-3 for the season and 9-3 in the conference.

Up next for the Orabs will be a Tuesday trip to Okoboji. The Rockets will be at Central Lyon Tuesday night.
