Rock Valley advanced to the 2A Boys District 1 basketball finals with a 79-54 win over Sheldon Thursday night in the first of two semi finals played in Sioux Center. In the second game the host team Warriors posted a 62-37 win over Hinton.
The Rockets led at all the breaks. They were up 22-13 at the end of the first quarter and took a 40-29 lead into half time as they took control of the contest.
Andrew Van Ginkel scored a game high 26 points. He hit eight 2-point field goals, one three and went 7-of-9 from the line. Also in double figures were Jesse Vande Weerd who hit for a dozen before fouling out with 5:15 to play. They were joined by Jerod Hanson with 11 points.
Sheldon was led by Turner DeJong with 15 points including a trio of threes and a 4-of-4 performance from the free throw line. Also in double figures were Dylan Ennema with 14 and Ian Jongewaard with 11.
With the win Rock Valley improves to 17-5 on the season while Sheldon ends the year at 6-17.
In the 2A District 1 finals Tuesday the 25th in LeMars it will be Siouxland Conference foes Sioux Center and Rock Valley battleling for a spot in the Substate game against the winner of District 2.
