Schenk Resigns Dordt Soccer Post At Conclusion of 2014 Season

schenkDordt College head soccer coach Dave Schenk has announced he will resign his coaching and assistant sports information director posts effective at the conclusion of the 2014 soccer season.

Schenk, who has coached both the men’s and women’s programs since 2008, posted a 48-59-1 record while coaching the men and a 57-49-9 record with the Defender women. Schenk guided the Defender women to a GPAC title in 2008 and the program’s only appearance in the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship Tournament. His men’s teams have advanced to the GPAC Post-Season Tournament in six straight seasons.

“We thank Dave for his contributions to the soccer programs, athletic department and the Dordt College community. Dave has exhibited nothing but the utmost in Christian leadership during his time at Dordt College as a coach. We will miss his work ethic and spirit as we move forward when this season is complete,” said Dordt College athletic director Glenn Bouma.

Schenk will remain head coach of the men’s program for the 2014 season while Bill Elgersma has been named the head coach of the women’s program effective immediately. Elgersma is currently an associate professor in the Dordt College English department and will continue in that position.

“In an effort to expedite this transition Dordt College had the opportunity to move forward with an experienced coach in Bill Elgersma to handle the women’s team immediately,” said Bouma.

Elgersma guided the Dordt men’s program from 1993-1997 and in 2007. He also coached the Dordt women from 2002-2007.
