Schoonhoven to Join Dordt Baseball Program

PrintAlex Schoonhoven, a senior at Unity Christian High School (Iowa), has announced his intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender baseball program.

Schoonhoven batted .384 last summer with 33 hits, 43 runs scored, four doubles and 15 runs batted in. He had a .547 on base percentage with a school record 33 stolen bases and drew 17 walks. He also pitched 53 innings and had an earned run average of 3.30 with 58 strikeouts and posted a 3-6 record and opponents batted .224 against him.

Schoonhoven is a three-time letter winner and earned first team all-conference honors and first team all-district accolades while claiming second team honors from the Northwest Iowa Review.

Schoonhoven also qualified for the Iowa High School State Track Meet in the 4 x 800 relay and he earned three letters in football at Unity.

Alex is the son of Marlin and Leah Schoonhoven of Ireton, Iowa. He plans to study business marketing and finance.
