Second Ranked MOC Floyd Valley Girls Basketball Team to Play For Region Title

MOC logoMOC Floyd Valley advanced to the Girls 3A Region 1 finals with a 78-45 home win over Cherokee Wednesday night. The Lady Dutch will play South Central Calhoun for the Region Title and a return trip to the State Tournament on Saturday night in Cherokee. South Central Calhoun advanced with a 62-55 win over East Sac County.

MOC Floyd Valley opened u pa 21-16 first quarter lead and were up by 13 points at halftime 38-25. The Lady Dutch erupted to outscore Cherokee 22-13 in the third quarter to put the game away eventually winning 78-45.

Katie Landhuis scored a game high 22 points including five three-point buckets. Alexis Conaway added 18 points and Rylee Yaw joined them in double figures with 13 points. A total of 10 players found their way into the scorebook for the Lady Dutch.

Cherokee got a team high 13 points from senior Megan Hummel. Freshman Kaely Hummel hit for a dozen and Megan Carlson pumped in 10 points.

With the win MOC Floyd Valley ranked number two in the latest 3A poll improve to 22-1 on the season while Cherokee ends the year at 8-15.

In the finals of Class 3A Region 2 it will be Spirit Lake meeting Garner Hayfield in the finals for a State Tournament trip. Spirit Lake advanced with a hard fought 59-56 win over Sioux Center while Garner Hayfield moved on with a 49-35 win at Osage. The Region 2 title game will be played at Algona this Saturday night.
