Sheldon And Boyden Hull Rock Valley Split Baseball – Softball Doubleheader

Sheldon and Boyden Hull Rock Valley split a baseball-softball double header in Sheldon Thursday night. The Nighthawks won the softball match up 14-5 while the Orabs took the win in baseball 7-5.

On the softball diamond the Nighthawks opened with 4 runs in the first inning and rode that momentum the rest of the way. Sheldon answered with a run in the bottom of the first to make it 4-1 as Michelle Fischer scored on an rbi single by Jessica Van Beek. The Orabs got on the board in the third inning when Mackenzie Radke singles and later came in to score on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Jessica Van Beek.

In the fifth Sheldon pushed across three more as Radke singled and scored on a single by Krista Bousema. Bousema came in on a single by Jessica Van Beek who would score on a fielder’s choice by Nicole Van Beek.

Boyden Hull Rock Valley was led by Monserrat Figueroa who reached and scored four times. Jo Anna Heemstra keyed a five run third inning with a two run double and drove in two more in the sixth with single.

Heemstra got the win on the mound going the first five innings. She gave up five runs on nine hits and struck out three. C J Vander Zwag pitched the final two innings of hitless relief. Sami Kleinwoltering went the first six innings. She struck out three.

With the win Boyden Hull Rock Valley moves to 9-7 for the year and 5-2 in the conference while Sheldon falls to 2-11 and 1-5 in the Siouxland.

On the baseball diamond Boyden Hull Rock Valley scored a run in the first and two more in the second and took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth when the Orabs erupted for five runs to take a 5-3 lead. Trevor Johnson, Chad Den Hartog and Joe Kuiper all stroked doubles to key the inning. Sheldon would add two more insurance runs in the sixth. The runs would prove important as Boyden Hull Rock Valley scored a pair in the top of the seventh to make the final 7-5. Chris Sietstra led the Nighthawks with a 2-for-3 night at the plate.

Trevor Johnson went the distance for the win as he struck out 9 and scattered 6 hits.
