Sheldon and Sibley Ocheyedan split a Siouxland Conference Basketball Double header Tuesday night in Sibley. The girl’s game went to the Generals 37-31 with the boys game going to the Orabs 65-48.
In the girls game Sibley Ocheyedan led at all the breaks 9-4 at the end of the first quarter before Sheldon pulled to within three at halftime 17-14. At the end of three the Generals were up 26-21 and went on to win 37-31.
Bridget Doeden led all scorers with 18 points. She went 8-of-10 from the free throw line and hit five field goals. Sheldon was led by Krista Bousema with 13 points. Bousema went 2-of-3 from the line and hit five field goals including one three-pointer.
With the win Sibley Ocheyedan stands at 1-1 in the conference and 2-1 for the season. Sheldon is even at 1-1 in both the conference and for the season.
The boys game went to Sheldon 65-48. The Orabs jumped out to a 19-5 first quarter lead and behind a 14 point second quarter by Dallas Ennema led 37-17 at halftime. At the end of the third quarter Sheldon led 53-26 before going on to win it 65-48. Ennema led all scorers with 29 points hitting 11 field goals and 7-of-7 free throws. He was joined by Collin Wolthizen who pumped in a dozen.
Dillon Thies led the Generals with 14 points including 10 in the fourth quarter. On the night he hit 6 field goals and went 2-of-3 from the line. Grant Juber hit double figures as well knocking down 10 points on the night.
It was the season opener for both boys’ teams. Up next for Sheldon is the home opener with George Little Rock Friday night. The Generals will travel to Rock Valley for a conference doubleheader.
