Sheldon And Sioux Center Split Conference Softball And Baseball

softballSheldon and Sioux Center split a conference double header at Open Space Park Wednesday. Sheldon won the softball match up 6-5 with Sioux Center winning the baseball game by that same 6-5 score.
Sheldon broke a 5-5 tie with a run in the top of the 6th inning and made it hold up for the win. the two teams traded big innings with Sheldon scoring four in the top of the third and the Warriors putting four on the board in the bottom of the fourth.

At the plate Sheldon was led by Jessica Van Beek who went 2-for-4 scoring a pair of runs and driving in two. Mackensey Radke went 2-for-4 with an rbi and a run scored. Abbi Meendering and Audrey Gustafson also drove in runs.

Sioux Center was led by Alison Sandbulte who went 2-for-2 with a pair of runs driven in and a run scored. Madison Beaver had a pair of rbis as well.

Allie Jongewaard went the distance for the win giving up 5 runs on 5 hits with 2 runs earned. She walked 3 and struck out 1. Carrigan Cleveringa was tagged with the loss giving up 6 runs on 8 hits with 2 earned runs. She struck out 8 and did not walk a batter.



baseballOn the baseball side Sioux Center scored 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 6-5 win. Sheldon had scored 4 runs in the top of the 6th inning to take a 5-4 lead.

Matt Buenger went 2-for-4 and drove in 2 runs. Grant weaver drove in another run. Mitch Jensen scored a pair of runs for the Orabs.

The Warriors were led by Kamden Glade who went 3-for-4 with a pair of rbis. Rylan Stewart drove in two runs as well.

Graham Zomermaand was the beneficiary of the late charge by Sioux Center as he got the win with an inning and two thirds in relief of Drew Kortlever who went the first five and a third. The two combined on a 5 hitter with Kortlever striking out 7 to go with 6 walks.

Mitch Jensen was tagged with the loss going the distance for Sheldon. He scattered 10 hits over six and a third innings. He walked 3 and struck out 1.

Next action for Sheldon will be Thursday afternoon with a trip to West Lyon. Sioux Center is at Western Christian.
