Sheldon And South O’Brien Split Saturday Basketball Doubleheader

Sheldon Iowa — Sheldon hosted South O’Brien in a non conference basketball doubleheader Saturday. South O’Brien won the girls game 56-51 while Sheldon took the boys game 41-35.

In the girls game Sheldon led at the first three breaks. They were up 12-10 at the end of the first quarter and took a 27-21 lead at halftime as Claire Johnson hit a three at the buzzer. At the end of the third quarter the lead was 40-35. The Wolverines finished on a 21-11 run to get the come from behind win 56-51.

Hannah Dau led the offense with 18 points. Kaylee Jacobs erupted for 11 points in the fourth quarter to finish with 17. Claire Johnson tied for game high honors with 18 points. Makenna and Maliah Kleinhesselink were next with 8 points each.

With the win South O’Brien is off to a 3-1 start. Sheldon is now 1-3 on the year.

In the boys game Sheldon opened with a 12-4 first quarter lead. At the half the Orabs were in front 18-13. At the end of three the lead was down to 30-27. The Orabs were able to seal the win at the free throw line going 6 of 10 in the fourth quarter led by Kaleb Ackerman who went 5 of 6 in the final minutes of the game. Ackerman finished with 13 points. Tye Sudbeck led all scorers with 15 points on five three-point buckets. South O’Brien was led by Jake Wallin with 8 points in the contest.

The Wolverines put  eight players in the scorebook while the Orabs had five players in the scorebook. Both teams are now 1-2 on the season. Sheldon returns to action on Tuesday night with a home double header with George Little Rock  while South O’Brien is off until Friday when they will be at Remsen St Mary’s.
