Sheldon Boys win District Tournament Opener

Rock Valley Iowa — The Sheldon Orab boys basketball team won their 2A District 16 tournament opener with a 63-54 win over Cherokee in a game played at Rock Valley Monday night. With the win Sheldon is on to the District semis on Thursday the 14th at West Sioux. The Falcons got a first round bye. Tip off is at 7:00 pm. Pregame begins at 6:45 on FM 100.7. The Orabs led at all the breaks. They were up 14-13 at the end of the first quarter as Ty Sudbeck knocked down 11 of his game high 23 in the first eight minutes of the contest. At the half the lead was 24-18 as Sudbeck’s total had reached 17. At the end of the third quarter the lead was 36-30.

The Orabs came into the contest hitting 67 percent from the free throw line and didn’t disappoint Monday night. Sheldon converted 23-of-28 in the fourth quarter alone. For the game Sheldon knocked down 31-of-37 at the free throw line.

Ty Sudbeck led the offense with a game high 23 points. He was joined in double figures by Marshall Kleinhesselink with 12 and Luke Van Beek with 11 points. All 11 came in the fourth quarter on 11-of-12 shooting from the free throw line.

Cherokee had two players in double figures getting 18 from Ryan Hurd and 16 from Kobe Grell. With the win Sheldon is 6-16 on the year. The Braves end the season at 8-14.
