Sheldon Downs MOC Floyd Valley 34-0

The Sheldon Orabs rolled to a 34-0 home win over MOC Floyd Valley Friday night.

The game started in unusual fashion as Sheldon squibed the opening kickoff and it caromed off one of the up men for MOC Floyd Valley. Sheldon recovered the football and had possession at the Dutch 48 yard line. Quarterback Chris Balster found receiver Nate Oostra up the right sideline and he took the ball all the way down to MOC Floyd Valley 12 yard line. From there Balster scored on a 12 yard touchdown run. Trevor Mayer added the extra point and Sheldon led 7-0 with just over a minute gone in the first quarter.

Following a Balster interception at the Sheldon 6 yard line a 94 yard drive came to a close with 2:15 to play in the quarter. Hunter McDonald scored on an 11 yard run and with Mayer’s extra point good the Sheldon lead was 14-0.

Another Balster interception at the Sheldon 10 and return to the original line of scrimmage at the Orab 32 set the stage for a score just before halftime. Sheldon had the ball at the MOC Floyd Valley 8 yard line with: 02 seconds left in the half when Balster pitched to McDonald and McDonald hit Nate Oostra in the right side of the end zone for the touchdown to give the Orange a 20-0 halftime lead.

A trio of long drives by Sheldon took up most of the third quarter. The final drive of 64 yards ended with a Hunter McDonald 5 yard run. Fullback Tanner Whitsell scored the 2 point conversion and the lead was 28-0 with: 47 seconds left in the third quarter.

Sheldon added a final score early in the fourth quarter as the Sheldon defense stopped MOC Floyd Valley on fourth down at their own 48 and cashed in on a short drive. Balster scored his second touchdown of the night on a 34 yard run with 9:51 to play in the game and the final score would be 34-0.

With the win Sheldon wraps up the number two spot in the District with a 5-1 record. They move to 6-2 on the season with HMS coming to town Friday for the regular season finale.

MOC Floyd Valley falls to 2-3 in the District and 4-4 overall. They will close the season against Sioux Center.
