Sheldon Edges Generals

OrabsSheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs would outlast the Sibley-Ocheyedan Generals 12-10 in Sheldon Tuesday night.

The Orabs would come out of the gate swinging putting up 5 runs in the bottom of the 1st highlighted by a bases clearing double by Alexa Vanden Hall and take an early 5-0 lead. The Generals would edge their way back into the game with Jill Berkland scoring on a balk in the 2nd inning, but the Orabs responded with a solo home run by Sydney Iedema to make the score 6-1 after 2 innings of play. Jada Carlson would drive in a run in the 3rd, and Sibley-Ocheyedan would get to within one run in the top of the 4th with aggressive base running along with a 2-run double by Charlie Palsrock. Heading into the bottom of the 5th, the Orabs lead was 6-5. Sheldon would then have 6 players touch home plate after Vanden Hall and Macy Jacobmsa would each drive in a run, along with Van Aalsberg and Nicole Johnson each batting in two runners, making the score 12-5. Sibley-Ocheyedan would tighten things up in the 6th off of the bat of Palsrock as she would hit in two with a double to center, cutting the lead to 5. The Generals would manage to score 3 runs in the top of the 7th, but fall short 12-10.

Nicole Johnson got the win for the Orabs, going 6 2/3 innings giving up 9 earned runs on 13 hits and 6 walks while striking out 9. Haley Wagner got the save with 1/3 IP.

Peyton Crichton took with loss. She gave up 10 earned runs on 12 hits and 3 walks. Crichton struck out 5.

The Orabs improve to 1-0 on the season and in the conference.

Sibley-Ocheyedan falls to 0-1 on the year and in the conference.
