Sioux Center, Iowa — The Sioux Center Warriors defeated the Sheldon Orabs 70-60 in a Class 2A District 1 semifinal Thursday night in Sioux Center.
The Warriors had an 11-4 advantage early, but the Orabs fought back and at the end of the 1st quarter the score was 16-15 Sheldon. The Orabs jumped out to a 23-17 lead in the opening minutes of the 2nd quarter but the Warriors battled back to get to within 2. Sheldon then responded with defense feeding the offense and at halftime the Orabs’ lead was 32-24. The Orabs extended their lead to 11 midway through the 3rd quarter, but heading into the 4th, Sheldon’s lead dwindled to 45-42. The Warriors retook the lead midway through the final quarter, and came away with the 70-60 victory.
Sioux Center got a team 16 points from Tyus Arends, Brendan Zeutenhorst added 14 points, and Trajan Walhof and Cade Bleeker each had 11 points.
Sheldon got a game high 22 points from Jaden Kleinhesselink and Kyler Boerhave Mitchal Van Gorp each added 14 points.
Sioux Center improves to 14-8 on the year and take on Unity Christian on Tuesday, February 21st at Spencer for the District Title. Sheldon ends their year at 18-5.
