Sheldon Outlasts Dutch

Orab-LogoSheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs defeated the MOC-Floyd Valley Lady Dutch 10-8 in Sheldon on Monday night.

The Orabs would jump to an early 1-0 in the bottom of the first after Nicole Johnson scored on a Sydney Iedema grounder, but MOC-Floyd Valley would tie things back up in the 2nd when Blair Pekelder drove in Tailor Goergen from third. The Lady Dutch would take the lead in the top of the 3rd with Zoe Heemstra driving in Haley Jorgensen, but the Orabs would counter with 2 runs of their own, making it 3-2 Sheldon after three. Sheldon would add another three runs in the 4th off the bats of Tayler Weber, Haley Jungers, and Alexa Vanden Hall, and have the lead 6-2.

The Dutch would respond with a 3-run 5th and add another three in the 6th, to take a 8-6 advantage. In the 5th Haily Jorgenson, Lilly De Haan and Randi Wielenga would reach and score. In the 6th it was Jorgenson, Wielinga and Bre Schuiteman crossing the plate.

In the bottom of the 6th Vanden Hall, Johnson, Alyssa Kavanagh, and Iedema would all come into to score to make the score 10-8 and the Orabs would come away with the win.

Nicole Johnson got the win for the Orabs. Johnson went 6 innings, giving up 7 earned runs on 11 hits, and 3 walk while striking out 3.

Haley Jorgensen took the loss, going 7 innings while giving up 7 earned runs, 10 hits, walking just 1 and striking out 6.

Sheldon improves to 6-12 on the year, 4-7 in the Siouxland.

MOC-Floyd Valley falls to 8-15 overall, and 4-7 in the conference.
