Sheldon Splits at Okoboji

Milford Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs traveled to Milford Friday night and split a basketball doubleheader with the Okoboji Pioneers. The girls game went to Okoboji 51-45 with the boys game going to Sheldon 63-44.

In the girls game the Pioneers jumped out to a 16-6 first quarter lead behind a 12 point outburst by Magan Christopherson. Christopherson would finish with a game high 17 points. Sheldon cut the lead to 32-22 at the half and were within 45-36 at the end of the third quarter. Okoboji would go on to claim the win 51-45.

Okoboji had two more players in double figures as Kallyn Stumbo and Camry Jones each hit for 11 points. Sheldon was led by Hannah Van Meeteren with 12 points and Brooklyn Grady with 11.

With the win Okoboji is 3-3 on the year and 2-3 in the conference. Sheldon is 0-6 for the season and 0-5 in the Siouxland.

In the boys game Sheldon jumped out to a 17-3 first quarter lead and rode that momentum the rest of the way to a 63-44 win. At the half the Orabs were up 34-17 and led 52-31 after the third quarter.

Ryan Van Marel led all scorers with 17 points. Phil Cain hit for 14 with Kyle Boerhave hitting for 13. Okoboji was led by Logan Abrahamson with 16 points and Jamison Helmers with 10.

With the win Sheldon is 4-1 for the year and 3-1 in the conference. Okoboji is 1-4 on the year and 0-4 in the Siouxland.

Up next for Sheldon will be a home doubleheader Tuesday night against MOC Floyd Valley. Okoboji will be at Greattinger Terril Ruthven Ayrshire for a non conference doubleheader on Monday.
