In the girls game the Rockets went up 15-7 at the end of the first quarter and led 28-21 at halftime. A strong third quarter pulled Sheldon to within 33-32 before Rock Valley put it away at the free throw line in the fourth quarter going 8-of-10 as a team. The final would be 51-44.
Sheldon got a game high 19 points from Krista Bousema as she hit 9 field goals including 1 three-pointer. The Rockets put three players in double figures getting a team high 18 from Monserrat Figueroa, 14 from Kensy Vande Hoef and 11 more from Joanna Heemstra.
With the win Rock Valley improves to 6-8 in the conference and 7-8 for the season. Sheldon falls to 5-9 in the conference and 5-11 for the season.
In the boys game that followed Sheldon trailed 20-19 at the first quarter as the Rockets pumped in a trio of three-pointers. Three more fell in the second quarter but the Orabs had enough fire power of their own to take a 33-31 halftime lead. In the third quarter outscored the Rockets 18-6 to pull in front 51-37 as they went on to win it 75-49.
Sheldon put four of the five starters in double figures getting a game high 23 from Dallas Ennema including 17 in the second half. Chris Balster had 14 points on the night with Matt Dykstra and James Gradert hit for 13 points each. The Rockets responded with three players in double figures led by Jerod Hanson with 15, Scott Westra with 12 and Brendon Harberts with 10 points.
With the win Sheldon moves to 12-1 in the Siouxland and 15-1 on the season. The Rockets are now 7-6 in the conference and 9-6 for the season.
Up next for Sheldon will be a trip to MOC Floyd Valley for a doubleheader Friday while the Rockets are on the road at Okoboji.
