Sheldon Splits Basketball Doubleheader With Rock Valley

BasketballSheldon Iowa — Sheldon hosted Rock Valley in Siouxland Conference Basketball Tuesday night. Rock Valley won the girls game 68-53 with Sheldon winning the boys game 70-50.

Sheldon had a 13-12 lead at the end of the first quarter in the girls game only to see Rock Valley move in front 34-21 at halftime. Sheldon cut the lead to 51-40 at the end of three with the Rockets taking control in the fourth quarter for the 68-53 final.

Samantha Blum had a game high 21 points for Rock Valley. She was joined in double figures by Cassie Van Beek with 18.

Sheldon put two players in double figures as well with Kayla Van Meeteren hitting for 18 and Sydney Iedema pumping in 14.

With the win Rock Valley is at 3-1 in the conference and on the year. Sheldon is 2-2 for the season and 1-2 in the conference.

 

In the boys game Sheldon opened a 16-10 first quarter lead before surging to a 41-21 halftime lead. with 2.4 seconds left the in bounds pass found Ryan Van Marel just off the top of the arc on the right side. He turned around and hit the three as time expired. The Orabs rode that momentum the rest of the way leading 59-37 at the end of the third quarter and went on to win 70-50.

Colby and Jayden Kleinhesselink both hit for a 13 points adding a spark at different times of the contest. Jayden had 11 at halftime and Colby led the charge to start the second half with a pair of threes and 10 points for the quarter. They were joined in double figures by Kyle Boerhave who had a game high 14 points.

The Rockets  were led by JT Van’t Hul with 10 points and Myles Van Maanen who had 9 points before fouling out with 6:34 to play.

With the win Sheldon improves to 2-0 in the conference and 2-1 for the season. The Rockets stand at 1-2 on the year and in the Siouxland.

Next  action for the Orabs comes on Thursday with a make up game at George Little Rock. The Rockets will be on the road at Okoboji on Friday.
