Sheldon Sweeps Sibley Ocheyedan

Sheldon Orabs 1Sheldon Iowa — Sheldon took both ends of a Siouxland Conference basketball doubleheader in Sheldon Thursday night. The Sheldon girls won 58-49 with the Orabs turning back the Generals 73-65 in the boys game.

Sheldon led at all the breaks in the girls game up 12-8 at the end of the first quarter and 29-19 at the half. At the end of the third quarter the Orabs were in front 42-27 and went on to win 58-49.

Sheldon put 4 players in double figures led by Katie Wagner and Cassidy Bart with 11 points each. Kacy Kamphoff and Bryn Groff hit for 10 points each. Sibley Ocheyedan got a game high 20 points from Carley Sievert and 11 points from Toni Lonneman.

With the win Sheldon is 3-8 on the year and 2-7 in the conference. The Generals are 1-8 on the year and in the conference.

 

In the boys game Sibley Ocheyedan was up 13-12 at the end of the first quarter and 29-27 at the half. The Generals knocked down 5 three-point buckets in the first half and finished the game with 7. Sheldon took a 48-44 lead as the third quarter came to an end. The two teams traded buckets through most of the fourth quarter before Sheldon took control for good late in the game and went on to win 73-65.

The Orabs had four players in double figures led by Ryan Van Marel with 23. Kyle Boerhave hit for 15 with Jaden Kleinhesslink adding 14. Mitchal Van Gorp joined them in double figures with an 11 point night. Sibley Ocheyedan got a game high 24 points from Preston Marco and 13 from Colvin Jenness. Ryan Marco hit for double figures with 11 points on the night.

With the win Sheldon moves to 9-1 on the year and 7-1 on the season. The Generals are 0-8 on the year and in the conference.

Next action for the Orabs will be Friday night as they host West Lyon. The Generals continue a three game road swing with a stop at Rock Valley.
