Sheldon Takes Two From GLR

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon girls got their second win in a row after hitting eight three points en route to a 72-50 conference victory, and the boys game went to Sheldon 56-51. At halftime of the boys game, Madison Uhl was presented with a trip to Hawaii from the Make-A-Wish foundation.

The Sheldon girls jumped to a quick 10-2 lead early in the game, but by the end of the first, G-LR tied things back up at thirteen. Sheldon then jumped out in the second quarter with a 10-0 run and went on to lead at the break 33-18. Nine different Orabs scored in the first half. Sheldon led by as much as twenty in the third, but the Mustangs got hot from beyond the arc to get to within 10, but Sheldon would lead 49-36 heading into the final quarter, and Sheldon went on to win 72-50.

Sheldon got a team high nineteen points from Brooklyn Grady, another fourteen from Katie Wagner, and Kacy Kamphoff added twelve points. The Mustangs got a game high twenty points from MacKenzie Post, Courtney Dykstra had thirteen, and Rachel Gerken added eleven points of her own.

With the win Sheldon improves to 2-7 on the year, 2-6 in the conference. The Mustangs fall to 2-7 on the year, and 2-6 in the Siouxland.

The boys contest was a physical matchup. Sheldon would take a 13-9 lead after one, then go on a 14-0 run to take a 30-19 halftime lead with five three pointers in the second quarter. After three, Sheldon’s lead was 41-29. The Mustangs got to within five with two minutes to go, but couldn’t get any close. Sheldon came away with the 56-51 victory.

Sheldon got a game high fourteen from Kyle Boerhave and ten from Jaden Kleinhesselink. The Mustangs were led by Caleb Ter Hark with eleven, and Lucas Nagel added ten points.

Sheldon improves to 7-1 on the year and 6-1 in the Siouxland. George-Little Rock falls to 5-3 on the year and 4-3 in the Conference.

Up next for the Orabs is a home contest on Friday against Central Lyon. G-LR will be on the road against Okoboji on Friday night.
