Sheldon Wins Algona Volleyball Tournament

The Sheldon Orabs won the Algona Volleyball Tournament Saturday, with a perfect 6-0 record to improve to 25-9 on the season.

In Saturday’s action at Algona, the Orange downed Forest City 2-0, with game scores of 21-11, 21-10.  In that match-up, Jessica Van Beek had 6 kills and 1 solo block for Sheldon, while Marti Vogel had 5 kills and 1 block assist, Courteney Scholten had 4 kills, Jena Van Marel had 1 block assist, Allie Jongewaard was 12/12 serving with 3 aces and 15 setter assists, Kayla Johnson had 7 digs, and Audrey Gustafson 5 digs.

In other Algona Tournament action, it was Sheldon 2, West Hancock 0, with game scores of 21-17, 21-7.  In that contest Van Beek had 6 kills, Vogel came away with 5 kills and 3 aces, Jongewaard had 12 setter assists, Gustafson and Johnson each came away with 5 digs.

The Orange then beat Carroll 2-0, with game scores of 21-14 and 21-12.  In the match with Carroll Marti Vogel got 8 kills, 2 block assists and was 9/9 serving.  Jessica Van Beek had 5 kills.  Jena Van Marel and Audrey Gustafson each had 2 block assists.  Allie Jongewaard came away with 3 aces and 13 setter assists, and Kayla Johnson contributed 5 digs.

Against Spencer, the Orabs won 2-0, with game scores of 21-9, 21-14.  In that contest, Marti Vogel came up with 7 kills and was 12/12 serving, with 3 aces.  Jessica Van Beek had 6 kills, Audrey Gustafson had 4 kills and 5 digs, and Mackensey Radke had 1 block assist.

The Orange then downed Clear Lake in 2 straight sets, 21-9 and 21-14.  Jessica Van Beek had 5 kills, Marti Vogel had 4 kills, Mackensey Radke had 2 block assists, Audrey Gustafson came up with 1 block assist and 3 digs, Katlyn Holtrop went 11/11 serving with 2 aces, and Allie Jongewaard had 11 setter assists.

In their last match of the day, Sheldon took a straight set win from Algona, with game scores of 21-16, 21-18.  Jessica Van Beek had 13 kills in that contest, Marti Vogel had 5 kills and 1 block assist, Jena Van Marel had 1 block assist, Kayla Johnson went 12/13 serving and had 8 digs, while Allie Jongewaard had 2 ace serves and 21 setter assists.

The Orange will enter post-season play on October 22 at Unity Christian.
