Sheldon Wins High Scoring Contest At Estherville

Estherville Iowa — In a game that featured numerous big plays Sheldon took the lead for good with 10:18 left in the fourth quarter as they would eventually close out non district play with a 45-35 win at Estherville. A Brian Bernal fumble recovery was turned into a 4 yard touchdown pass from Brennan Radke to Cody Vaselaar to put the Orabs up 38-35.  A final time consuming 78 yard drive put the game away when Jeremy Wollmuth scored on a 1 yard run. Bernal added the extra point to make the final 45-35. Wollmuth’s touchdown came with 2:15 left to play.

Estherville Lincoln Central returned the opening kickoff to the Sheldon 8 yard line and Christian Sheridan went in from 3 yards out for the games first score. Aldo Alvarado added the point after and the Midgets led 7-0 with less than a minute gone.

Alec Heifner found Kevin Egeland for a 35 yard score and the extra point made it 14-0 with 7:53 left in the first quarter.

Sheldon got on the board on a 53 yard pass play from Radke to Tyler Lode. The kick was no good and the lead was cut to 14-6 with 6:31 left in the first.

The Orabs scored again when Lode picked off a pass and returned it to the E-LC 14. From there Radke found Trent Van Meeteren for a 14 yard score. Bernal added the point after and the Midgets lead was down to 14-13 with 4:17 left in the first quarter.

Estherville Lincoln Central answered with a 79 yard drive capped by Briar Rowley’s 1 yard run. The kick was good and the Midgets were in front 21-13.

Another Lode interception this time at the Midgets 34 yard line was into a 1 yard touchdown run by Wollmuth. A 2 point attempt failed and the lead was 21-19 in favor of E-LC with 5:35 left in the half.

The Midgets answered with a 71 yard drive capped by a Sheridan 16 yard run. The kick was good and the lead was 28-19  with 3:01 left in the half.

Sheldon answered that score with a 69 yard run by Lode off the jet sweep with 1:43 left in the half. Bernal added the extra point to make it 28-26 at half time.

Sheldon scored first in the second half with 7:19 left as Radke found Lode for a 44 yard score. The kick was blocked but the Orabs had their first lead at 32-28.

The Midgets regained the lead with a 36 yard touchdown run by Rowley. The Kick was good and the Midgets were back in front 35-32 with 2:09 left in the third quarter.

Sheldon took the lead for good with 10:18 to play when Radke found Vaselaar on the 4 yard touchdown play following the Bernal fumble recover. The Orabs finished the scoring on Wollmuth’s 1 yard run and the extra point by Bernal that made the final 45-35.

With the win Sheldon will take a 3-1 record into the district opener at home against MOC Floyd Valley in the Orabs homecoming game. E-LC will take a 2-2 record into their district opener at Spirit Lake.
