Sioux Center Girls State Tournament Bound

warriors logoSheldon Iowa — The Sioux Center Warriors outscored Spirit Lake 21-7 in the third quarter to take control of the Class 3A Region 1 Championship Game and earn a spot in the State Tournament. At the end of the first quarter Spirit Lake led 8-5 and took a 14-13 lead into halftime. The Sioux Center offense caught fire in the second half as they rolled to a 55-25 win.

Sioux Center had two players in double figures and both figured prominently in the second half surge. Jordyn Van Maanen hit 8 of her 14 points in the third quarter after being held to 3 points in the first half. Alexis Toering had 14 as well. All 14 in the second half, including a 10 point fourth quarter as the Warriors sealed the win.

Spirit Lake was led by Joie Veldman who opened with  a pair of threes in the first quarter and would finish with 8 points.

With the win 6th ranked Sioux Center is State Tournament bound with a 20-4 record. 8th ranked Spirit Lake ends the year at 16-8.
