Sioux Center Remains Unbeaten in District Football With Win Over Sheldon

warriors logoSioux Center remained unbeaten in district play with a 53-0 win at Sheldon Friday night. With the win Sioux Center stands at 4-0 in the district and 5-2 on the season. Sheldon slips to 2-3 in the district and 3-4 on the season with their final district game next Friday at MOC Floyd Valley.

The Warriors turned a trio of Orab turnovers into touchdowns in the first half as they took a 26-0 half time lead.

A fumble recovery at the Sheldon 38 became a 20 yard Andrew O’Donnell touchdown run. Cody Franken added the extra point and Sioux Center was up 7-0 with 10:44 left in the first quarter.

An interception return for a score by Drew Kortlever made it 13-0 with 7:30 to go in the first after the extra point was blocked.

Next was a 68 yard drive that ended on a 2 yard Dylon Van’t Hof touchdown run. Franken’s kick made it 20-0 with 2:32 left in the first quarter.

First half scoring was wrapped up following a fumble recovery at the Sheldon 22 yard line. O’Donnell hit Able Duden on a 10 yard touchdown pass. The extra point attempt was no good and the scoreboard read 26-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter the Warriors continued to take advantage of their opportunities as a fumble recovery at the Sheldon 12 was cashed in when O’Donnell hit Chris Borchers for a 12 yard touchdown. The kick was no good and Sioux Center was up 32-0 with 7:21 to go in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter a 51 yard drive ended on a Duden 1 yard touchdown run. Jose Torres added the extra point to make it 39-0 with 8:30 to play.

A fumble recovery and return to the Sheldon 1 yard line set up a 1 yard score by back up quarterback Ko Kieft. Torres added the point after to make it 46-0 with 5:36 to play.

Derek Hooyer wrapped up the scoring as he hit the left sideline at the 29 yard line and sprinted 71 yards down the stripe for the games final score.

Sheldon wraps up district play at MOC Floyd Valley next Friday while Sioux Center travels to Rock Rapids for a battle of district unbeatens.
